Tailgate struts from eBay on the Nissan Navara (Frontier) D40

Sometimes you wish the truck bed tailgate would have struts so it wouldn't fall down with force, being heavy and all.

Well as it happens, you can source a set of struts for the tailgate from China though eBay.

The set installs in the upper bolt of the tailgate cables; you just replace these with longer ones that will also attach the strut. The original bolt was 12mm, the new one 16mm.

The lower part of the strut needs a hole drilled though. This is not a big deal, but fitting the nut that goes on the inside of the tailgate was quite the hassle. I forgot to take a picture of the device, but it is a rectangular metal piece with a long metal tail. You can hold the tail with long pliers and try to wiggle the part just right so that you the bolt catches the threads from the outside. To be able to do this, you need to remove any potential lining the tailgate may have.

Once this is done, you're home free. The install looks clean :)
