Oil leaks in the Audi TT 8N...fix one, find another

When the Audi TT arrived to me, its engine bay was generally a mess. Over time, I have begun to address these one by one. The most obvious leak was from the valve cover, which sprayed oil everywhere. There was also a substantial amount of oil in the front of the engine, under the intake. Since space is limited here, this was not immediately obvious.

The valve cover was also covered in serious sludge, suggesting oil change interval has not been adhered to. It did clean out nicely though. The valve train itself does not look that bad.

After removing the intake, it was apparent that the PCV system was largely perished. There were multiple hoses with quite substantial holes and cracks. Also, some of the vacuum hoses underneath the intake were also quite toast. This lead to quite some cleaning up to do. While replacing the PCV hoses, I also decided to replace the PCV vacuum valve.

Since the intake needed to come off, the gaskets had to be replaced. With over 20 years of service, this was likely a good idea anyway. At the same time, I cleaned the injector seats which were also covered in serious sludge.

This was a good time to clean and paint the intake, since as everyone knows, this increases horsepower seriously.
New gaskets, hoses, valves and other consumables cost roughly 100 euros. I replaced the spark plugs since these needed to come off anyway. I also managed to find a new oil filler cap as the old one leaked slightly.
